These days, Lincoln is best known for tarting up Fords and selling a few of them while automotive journalists suggest they start making brown, diesel, RWD, V8 wagons. In decades bygone, however Lincoln was on point and making awesome luxury cars. While the closest the company ever got to a sports car was the Mark series, these were really more like Americanized grand tourers than proper sports cars.

A sports car was once considered, and this, the 1955 Lincoln Indianapolis Concept, was that car. It was powered by a 200 horse V8, which would have put it in the same league as the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300SL, and designed by Carrozzeria Boano, an off-shoot of Ghia.

It will be sold by RM Auctions and Sotheby's on November 21st in New York.
