Even when J.R. Smith tries to do something nice, he catches flak for it.
A little while ago, the Knicks guard decided to put up an Instagram photo to commemorate the 12th anniversary of 9/11. So he picked one out, put it up, and wrote a nice caption to go alongside of it. At least, he put what he thought was a nice caption. That caption? "Celebrate the deaths of the people in 9/11! #WELOVEYOU #WEWILLNEVERFORGET."
We get what he was trying to say. He just phrased the caption poorly. What it should have said was something like, "Celebrate the lives of the people who died on 9/11!" or something like that. But instead, he chose the caption that he did and got hit with responses like this:
- "Wait…'Celebrating'???"
- "Celebrate the death? Yeah that makes sense."
- "Celebrate the death? Um…."
- "Jr smith your my favorite player but did u really just say celebrate?"
- "Maybe he is a Jehovah's Witness I hear they celebrate death days bc they are with The Lord and that should be celebrated."
Hmmm…Something tells us that's not the reason he chose to use the word "celebrate." It seems like it was just a poor choice of words. And anyway, you all knew what J.R. meant, right? It's the thought that counts.
