Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson was expected to get penalized after his helmet-to-helmet hit on Saints' running back Darren Sproles and indeed he did. The NFL has suspended Goldson for one game, and he's planning on appealing this suspension. His case is going to be heard on Tuesday.
If the suspension stands, it'll be Goldson's second punishment even though we're only in Week 2. His first sanction was a $30,000 fine after his helmet-to-helmet hit against Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland. This suspension would be more expensive as it'll cost him about $265,000.
If that wasn't bad enough, you can pretty much picture the finger wagging in NFL vice president of football operations Merton Hank's letter to Goldson informing him about the suspension. "It is clear that you lowered your head and unnecessarily rammed the left side of your helmet into the left side of your opponent's head," he writes. "You delivered a forceful blow with your helmet and made no attempt whatsoever to wrap up your opponent or make a conventional tackle on the play. This illegal contact clearly could have been avoided."
