At the end of the 2013-14 season Carmelo Anthony will have a tough decision to make. Does he stay with the New York Knicks or opt out and join a team, like the Los Angeles Lakers playing alongside his good friend Kobe Bryant? While he still has plenty of time to think over all his options, it seems like Melo already has his mind made up. "I'm not going nowhere," Anthony said during an interview Tuesday with Bloomberg Television's Market Makers.
In terms of looking out for his best financial interest, Anthony would definitely benefit from staying in the BIg Apple since he could start negotiating a extension in February worth around $129 million over five years. While the best contract that the Lakers could offer is a four-year, $96 million deal.
In addition to clearing up speculation about his future after this upcoming season, Anthony also told The Associated Press at a Sept. 11 charity event yesterday that he doesn't want to talk about the topic during the season. "I'm just not going to do it,'' Melo said. "I'm going to let everybody know the first day that I'm not going to talk about it.''
There you go. Anthony is staying put. Unless the Knickerbockers have another disappointing season. Then, his mindset could very well change. But, as of right now, sleep easy, Knicks fans.
