49ers linebacker Aldon Smith had a pretty tough weekend with the DUI arrest and the crushing 27-7 loss against the Colts. The team obviously needs some work, but Smith is putting himself first.

Smith reportedly decided to go into rehab "sooner than later." How soon? Well Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com said his lockerwas completely empty following today's game:

If that didn't make things a bit obvious, the 49ers announced that Smith isn't playing against the Rams on Thursday. San Fransisco didn't mention if he was going to rehab, but if he is, that's certainly a plus. The man was 2011's No. 7 draft pick and has a whole career ahead of him. It'd be unfortunate if it all went to waste because of substance abuse.

The NFL isn't disciplining Smith yet, but the its alcohol-related policy states: “Discipline for a second, or subsequent offense is likely to be a suspension, the duration of which may escalate for repeat offenses.” Smith was arrested for a DUI last year in Miami Beach.

UPDATE: Smith has been suspended indefinitely and will be entering and in-patient facility to undergo rehab. He's released the following statement:
