[UPDATE]: Unfortunately, we have to tell you with heavy hearts that this is not the BRZ STi. This is a BRZ tS Concept car. The past week, the 86 festival at Fuji Speedway was going on, which is where Subaru debuted this new package. The thing is, unlike the more powerful STi, the tS is just an exterior addition. tS stands for "tuned by STi," and upgrades include a wing, new wheels, Recaro seats, front spoiler and side skirts, and a Bilstein suspension tune. There is still no word on when the full-blown STi will debut.

After owning the headlines for much of 2012, the BRZ/GT86/FR-S has been lying low for a while (save for the convertible), only to come roaring back in a big way today. Subaru updated its STI website with some first-time teaser images of the upcoming STI variant of the BRZ. We have a photo of the nose and the side panel badging, and an image of a winding road with the phrase "Purity of HANDLING."

The more powerful BRZ is rumored to be getting the forced-induction treatment, probably ending up with a turbocharger on the 2.0L flat-four boxer that it has under its hood. As for Toyota's variant, we're still expecting that to be a hybrid. Releases of both are still under wraps, but we've got Frankfurt, L.A. and Tokyo still on the docket for this year.
