New York City has a lot of things that most consider iconic and a part of the culture of the city. Up there with the attractions, food, and attitudes are the yellow and black taxis. The Checker cabs haven't been seen since 1999, but the overall color scheme and feel of a New York City taxi is something that will never go away, no matter the vehicle choice.

The choice of the coming generation of taxis currently in production is the Nissan NV200. These "Mobility Taxis" are equipped to accomodate four passengers and are wheelchair accessible. Mayor Bloomberghas said that the Nissan NV200 will be the "safest, most comfortable and most convenient taxi the City has ever had." With an estimated 600,000 people hailing them each day, it was important for the city to invest in comfortable and well-equipped vehicles that will probably service the island and its boroughs for years to come. Production is underway in Mexico and the taxis are expected on the roads sometime in 2014.
