We're very excited to see what Madza's next rotary sportscar is going to be, especially after seeing first hand how amazing the fire-farting RX-8 Grand-Am cars were. Now Autoblog is reporting that Mazda is planning on releasing the 16X rotary engine in 2015.

THe reason for the delay? Mazda wants to significantly lower fuel consumption and increase torque, and the key to both of those things is lengthening the stroke (mind out of the gutter, please). Of course, long stoke refers to the way a traditional piston engine works, and it's going to take quite a bit of R&D to even figure to what the equivalent of stroke lengthening is for a rotary engine.
