Jason Heyward Got Drilled in the Face by a Fastball Today (GIF)

This is hard to watch.

This definitely wasn't pretty.

During today's Mets/Braves game at Citi Field, Braves outfielder Jason Heyward took a 90 mph fastball from Mets pitcher Jonathan Niese to the side of his face. Fortunately, it appears that Heyward was able to move out of the way in time to avoid the pitch hitting him directly in the cheek. It looks like it caught his helmet's earflap instead. But Heyward still went down hard after the pitch hit him and needed several minutes to regain his composure.

Heyward was taken out of the game, and he will have X-rays taken on his cheek and jaw. We hope this looked way worse than it actually was.

UPDATE:

X-rays revealed that Heyward's jaw is broken in two places. He will undergo surgery to have his jaw repaired on Thursday.
