If Chris Christie runs for president in 2016, he will probably have the support of Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez after the New Jersey governor defended them in a big way earlier today. While serving as guest host for WFAN's Boomer and Carton show, Christie spoke at length about how Sanchez has been given a raw deal the last few years.

“It seems like the fans have amnesia about this guy, Yeah, he was awful last year, but by the way, he had no weapons last year to throw to, he had no receiving corps, he had no running game and the offensive line was below average. So what are you looking for from the guy? I think they’ve treated him awfully. It seems like they’re determined … and I think this new general manager (John Idzik) is just determined to play the guy that he drafted (Geno Smith).”

When the topic switched to the heated Rex Ryan press conference on Saturday, Christie sided with the Jets head coach while absolutely tearing Jets beat reporter Manish Mehta apart.

“Idiot. The guy’s a complete idiot. Self-consumed, underpaid, reporter … the only reason he’s empowered is because we’re spending all this time this morning talking about Manish Mehta … Who, by the way, I couldn’t pick out of a lineup and no Jets fan really gives a damn about Manish Mehta … We shouldn’t be giving this dope, you know, the amount of airtime we’ve given him already.”

Ouch. Christie doesn't pull any punches, does he? As a Jets fan, we're not surprised to hear him come to the defense of his favorite team and their players, but damn Christie, you ain't gotta do Mehta like that! So far, this is the only mention of Christie from the New York Daily News beat reporter:

Sanchez leaves w/backpack over left shoulder. Ask him to grab binder above head. His response (smile): "Do u want me to call Gov Christie?"

It must be good to now have Gov. Christie in your corner, Sanchez.
