Going into the 2013 MLB Home Run Derby, most people thought a left-handed hitter would win the competition. The short Pepsi Porch in left field at Citi Field makes the Mets' home stadium ideal for left-handed power hitters. But during his first at-bat during the Derby, Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes proved that right-handed hitters can hit the long ball at Citi Field, too.
Cespedes hit 17 home runs (!) during the first round, six in the second, and nine in the final round to beat Bryce Harper 9-8 in order to earn his first-ever MLB Home Run Derby victory. Watch him stroke his Derby-clinching home run in the clip above. What a performance.
