After struggling for a while, old-school Tim Lincecum came back to make sports headlines in what was to be a hellish night for the Padres. The Giants ended up scoring nine runs while San Diego couldn't get a single hit; the two-time Cy Young Award winner threw the first no-hitter of his career.
He wasn't perfect as he walked four batters and hit another one in the second inning, but he managed to record a season-high 14 strikeouts on 148 pitches—the first 140-plus pitch outing since Edwin Jackson's 149-pitch no-hitter on June 25, 2010. Lincecum's no-hitter was the seventh in Giants history.
This no-hitter wasn't without a fantastic save though. It was two outs in the bottom of the eighth when Alexi Amarista struck one toward the right field. Right fielder Hunter Pence made a diving catch to save Lincecum's game:
