Not funny. That was the message that police in Wenham, Mass. had for a 24-year-old woman who tried to pull a weird hoax on them yesterday.
According to police, a woman named Maria Brayfield was found locked inside of her own car trunk at 3:30 a.m. on Monday morning on the side of Route 128 in Wenham. Several motorists who drove by the woman's Ford Focus on Route 128 saw her car parked and thought that it may have been involved in accident. So they stopped and, after a few minutes, realized that Brayfield was stuck inside of her trunk and let her out. And when they did, she revealed that she had been abducted from her home by two men who then forced her to climb into her trunk.
The only problem? Her story was a complete lie. Police arrived on the scene a short time later, questioned Brayfield, and quickly discovered that she had actually locked herself in the trunk as part of a hoax. They found out that she had her cell phone on her the whole time and that she had not been abducted.
So why did she try and pull a fast one on police? No one knows. But because she did, Brayfield has now been charged with filing a false police report and will have to report to court to answer to the charge. So we bet she's not laughing now. This is one hell of a way to get yourself into some serious trouble.
