When former Cubs ace Kerry Wood went paddle boarding in Chicago's Belmont Harbor on Monday morning, he probably wasn't planning on calling 911 at some point. In fact, we're pretty sure he was hoping (praying!) that he didn't have to call 911 for anything. But that's exactly what he ended up doing. It wasn't because he got injured while paddle boarding, though. Instead, it was because he found a dead body floating in the harbor.
Wood called 911 immediately and the victim—who was later described as a 40-year-old man who had been reported missing by a nursing home in the area—was recovered from the water a short time later. But the man's cause of death has not been released yet. What a weird way for Wood to start off his week.
