Uh-oh, Roger Federer fans. Your boy is looking a little off his game these days.
Earlier today, the 17-time Grand Slam tennis champion lost in the quarterfinals of the French Open to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets. Tsonga upset him 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals. But the upset could be a sign of more than just a bad day for Federer. He's typically dominated at major Grand Slam tournaments in the past. But he's now been eliminated from the semifinals at a major event for the second time in the last three tournaments. That's not to say that Tsonga doesn't deserve some credit for playing well. But the fact that Tsonga beat Federer so soundly could signal the end of Federer's reign.
"I played against a champion today," Tsonga said after the match. "A guy who has won everything. Today it's my turn."
Today…and maybe tomorrow, too. It's too soon to really tell. But this could be the beginning of the end for one of the best athletes of the last decade. Stay tuned.
