The Mazda3 has been a repeat favorite of enthusiasts and critics the world over, but the current iteration just can't stand up to the level of sophistication of today's compact market. Oh, and that goofy ass grin has been a problem since day one, as well.

Well, all that is going away, the new 3 will be pwoered by a 2.0L SkyActiv I4 that makes a healthy 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque or a 2.5L mill that produces 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, the American market will almost certainly not get the diesel that shall be offered in Europe. While fuel economy figures haven't been released yet, they should be pretty good due to the SkyActiv tech and Mazda's new brake energy regeneration system that will power the electrical systems.
