Another day, another sportsTwitter fail. This one comes courtesy of Ian Stewart, a former top MLB prospect who is currently playing Triple-A ball in the Chicago Cubs farm system. Although he's hitting just .164 in the minor leagues right now since getting sent down by the Cubs back in April, Stewart is apparently frustrated over the fact that he's not in the majors. So he went on a pretty epic Twitter rant late last night and unleashed a number of tweets like these to his followers:
It didn't take long for the Cubs to respond. Although they said that they will not release Stewart, he may possibly be fined or even suspended for speaking out against the organization. It also sounds like he's received a stern talking to by Cubs management.
"We spent the entire morning dealing with an issue that doesn't help us get better as an organization," Cubs GM Jed Hoyer said earlier today. "That's not how we want to spend our time. What he did was really unprofessional and there are going to be consequences. Beyond that, I'm not going to comment."
Stewart just released an apology (on Twitter!) a few minutes ago:
Why, oh why do athletes keep using Twitter to get themselves into trouble? We would tell them to learn a lesson for Stewart. But we know they won't. So you can probably expect another sports Twitter fail aaaaaaany minute now...
