The Opulent New S-Class Will Be Driving Itself in Five Years

If Mercedes doesn't call this feature "Integrated Chauffeur" it will be a major fail.

Mercedes just unveiled the new S-Class yesterday, and in doing so greatly impressed us, but now ze Germans are already getting us pumped up for the car's mid-cycle refresh in 2017-ish. How is this possible when yesterday a sleek modern interior was paired with classy bodywork and reclining seats? Autonomous driving.

Now we're usually not big fans of the concept of autonomous cars, as we rather like driving, but in a huge luxury cruiser like the S-Class, we think the feature will be right at home. The S-Class isn't about clipping apexes or oversteer or twisty mountain roads, it's about getting wherever you're going in as much comfort as possible. It's intended to be like a mobile living room, so we think being able to sit back and let the car do the work would be perfect.
