Round: 1984 NBA Finals, Game 7
Matchup: Lakers @ Celtics
Stats: 5-for-10, 24 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists
Maxwell was a very good player for the Celtics throughout the early 1980s, winning the Finals MVP award in 1981. But with the emergence of Larry Bird and Kevin McHale as the primary offensive weapons his role began to decline quickly. He was mostly an afterthought in the 1984 Finals, but in Game 7 he showed why he was once such a highly regarded player as he nearly recorded a triple-double in leading the Celtics to a championship victory. Maxwell was particularly efficient getting to the line, hitting on 14 of his 17 free-throw attempts and staking the Celtics to an early lead thanks to his 17 first half points.
