Maurice Clarett's NFL dreams died almost a decade ago. But that doesn't mean that he's completely given up on the idea of playing a professional sport again.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, the former Ohio State star is going to play for the Columbus affiliate in the Tiger Rugby league. He'll take part in the Ohio Rugby Sevens Invitational with the team on May 25. And, if things go well, he might be playing on a bigger stage in the near future. Tiger Rugby is a development league designed to help select the squad that will rep the U.S. at the 2016 Summer Olympics. So if Clarett is any good at rugby, he could be headed to the Olympics one day.
A career in rugby probably isn't what Clarett had on his mind when he entered the NFL Draft back in 2005. But since his NFL career never panned out due to a variety of personal and legal issues, we see nothing wrong with him trying to make a name for himself in a different sport. Who knows? His decision to play rugby could turn out to be one of the best decisions he's ever made. We'll just have to wait and see.
