In the '70s and '80s, most cars really, really sucked. Almost all of the designs were overly boxy, many were poorly proportioned, and performance was, for the most part, terrible. Nothing was fast, but at least Ferrari and Lamborghini managed to make quick cars. 

In the '90s things changed a lot, designers put down the straight edge and the T-square and began to use curves again, and technology caught up to the emissions requirements, which allowed for incredible performance, the likes of which the world had never seen before.
