The Lamborghini Gallardo debuted in 2003. While we're amazed that it still looks good and it's still relevant, it's well past time for a successor from the berserk Italian automaker. Volkswagen Group of China's sales and marketing chief, Weiming Soh, told Autocar "We will come out with a new Gallardo in a short time and be able to further progress with Lamborghini."
Given that the next generation Audi R8, which shares a platform and some of its drivetrain with the Gallardo, is going to be replaced in 2014, it wouldn't be surprising to see a new Gallardo at the same time.
