Oh, Jeep, you think you fancy, huh, with your nine-speed automatic transmission in the new 2014 Cherokee? Well, Ford and Chevrolet are working on a new project to one-up you. The two rivals have come together to develop not only a nine-speed trans but also a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Obviously, this is an attempt to further technology for better gas mileage and smoother performance.
As the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers of the auto industry, the collaboration might come as a huge surprise, but this is not the first time the two have come together to create cutting-edge transmissions three times in the past 10 years, most recently on a six-speed. Expect these to start showing up in 2015 and 2016 model year cars.
