On Saturday afternoon, Kyle Busch won the NRA 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, TX. But that wasn't the biggest story to come out of the race.
At the tail end of the race, a man shot himself in the head in the infield at the Texas Motor Speedway and was pronounced dead on the scene. It didn't prevent the race from finishing. But it did send shockwaves throughout the race community and garnered a ton of national coverage since the suicide took place during a race sponsored by the NRA.
Last night, a medical examiner confirmed that the 42-year-man named Kirk Franklin died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Police are still investigating the suicide. But they believe that it resulted from an argument that broke out between Franklin and several other people watching the race from the infield. Alcohol may have also been a factor.
What a tragedy.
