Marcus Rios of UCLA could very well miss the entire upcoming college football season because of a "very rare" sinus infection that only 12 people have ever had. Last October, Rios was diagnosed with the infection and while he still managed to play in nine games during his freshman year, the defensive back started suffering from migraine headaches. Then, according to Rios, "they found the fungus infection behind my eye and beneath my brain.” In addition to taking antibiotics, Rios has been in and out of hospitals throughout the offseason.
Over the last seven months, Rios has already gone through 12 surgeries with another procedure set in two weeks. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Rios revealed that out of those 12 people, "eight of them have died" and "two others recovered and then died later.”
We really hope Rios can successfully fight off the infection.
