2. 28 and 26 Claimed National Championships
Team/Player: Princeton (28) and Yale (26) University Football
Date: 1869-1950 (Princeton); 1872-1926 (Yale)
It's silly to think of these two Ivy League schools as the gold standard for college football excellence, but that is exactly what they claim to be by proclaiming themselves national champions this many times. Even further reducing the legitimacy of these claims is the fact that college football essentially barred African-Americans from playing during this entire stretch, diluting the already thin talent pool. Somehow, we don't think the 1869 Princeton or 1872 Yale squads would have much of a chance against the 2012 Alabama Crimson Tide.
