This Lun-class ekranoplanis a ground effect plane designed and built by the Russians and used by the Soviet Navy from 1987 to 1996. This is the only example ever built and at 240 ft it is one of the largest planes in the world.
It flew using the extra lift generated by the effect of its large wings when close to the surface of the water - about four meters or less. Is also has six roof-mounted missile launchers capable of firing P270 guided missiles!
Today, it sits in a Russian naval yard - abandoned for 15 years. According to a 2010 report, plans to build a new Lun-Class aircraft are currently in the works.
