Guys, gals, birds, dogs, cats, car lovers, car haters, I-don't-even-known-how-to-drive-ers, Chevrolet just brought back the Camaro Z/28, and it is a track-ready MONSTER. Everybody was expecting the new unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS, which ended up taking a backseat at the Chevrolet display, next to the Corvette, Corvette convertible, and the SS, but nobody expected this launch.

The Z/28, which was originally launched back in 1967, took center stage, sitting on black rims, in an icy pearl white paint job dubbed "Octane." The beautiful exterior isn't exactly representative of the car's brutish appeal, as Chevy wants to make one thing clear: This is a street-legal track car. It's got one speaker (for the seatbelt beep), weighs 300 lbs. less than the ZL1, has a revised chassis, holds Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, and has a 427 LS7 dry-sump, 7.0L V8 that is estimated at 500 horses and 470 lb.-ft. of torque .

“The LS7 is ideal for road racing because it delivers amazing performance in a compact, lightweight package,” said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer and program manager. “The broad torque curve and high redline of the LS7 mean fewer shifts are required for each lap, while the lightweight design improves the front-to-rear weight balance for better handling.”

Offered only in manual, the 2014 Camaro Z/28 will hit dealers later this year, so you can start crafting up that "For Sale" sign on whatever car you currently own.
