11 seeds generally are not expected to do much in the NCAA Tournament; they often come from mid-major conferences and make easy fodder for the high-powered, highly-touted traditional powers. 2006 was not that kind of year, though. Playing out of the little-known Colonial Athletic Association, the George Mason Patriots stormed through the Tournament, including wins over No. 3 seed North Carolina and No. 1 seed UConn as they reached the Final Four. They ended up losing there to eventual National Champion Florida, and didn't even make the Tournament the following year.
