While the tournament is rarely about individual records, in this one case we can make an exception. Notre Dame's Austin Carr absolutely lit up Ohio in this 1970 first round contest, scoring 61 points without the benefit of a three point arc. He hit a remarkable 25 shots from the field, sinking 11 of his 14 free throws as well. Carr would go on to score 52 and 45 in Notre Dame's next two games, but it was not enough to carry his Irish squad any further in the tournament.
