Swiss Firm Plans Unmanned Shuttle Launches From Plane

Pipe dream or reality? You be the judge.

Swiss aerospace firm Swiss Space Systems, or S3, has announced plans to use an Airbus A300 with an unmanned, winged space-launch vehicle on its back to send payloads into space.

The company has dozens of investors and sponsors lined up and is hoping to make the first test flight of its new design by 2017. S3 plans to use the airport in Payerne, Switzerland, as its base.

While we certainly hope it happens, we are skeptical that S3 will be able to bring this 'out-of-this-world' venture to reality.
