Mercedes is Looking at Making a Car Even Smaller Than the A and CLA Classes

It could be called the X-Class, and be based on a Renault platform.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatchback and CLA-Class sedan have gotten a lot of press for being cheap(er), smaller Benzes that still very much live up to the brand's reputation, but word is coming now that the company is looking at making even smaller cars that could compete with the Audi A1 and Mini.

Mercedes would use a platform sources from the company's allies at Renault to produce a hatchback, sedan, and CUV that would be smaller and cheaper than the A, CLA, and the upcoming GLA. Expect power to come from a 1.0L I3 or a 1.5L I4.

Release will be in 2018 if this pans out.
