The NBA has made their decision. Thunder center Serge Ibaka will not be suspended for hitting Clippers forward Blake Griffin in the groin on Sunday. Instead, he'll get off with a $25,000 fine and will be eligible to play in tonight's Lakers/Thunder game. And, BG doesn't sound all that happy about it.
"From what I heard, I guess he's saying he was just trying to get his hand away from mine," he said earlier today. "I actually didn't have his hand. He had my arm, so I don't know how it's going to be interpreted. It is surprising [he won't be suspended], but it is a big game tonight and I don't think they want one of their…I really don't know. It's a big game."
According to Griffin, Ibaka may have had his penalty reduced because of the fact that the Lakers are coming to town to play tonight. But, he wouldn't come out and say it when asked by reporters.
"I don't know," he said. "It's a big game, though. It's kind of a mess. It's kind of a tough situation. Whatever the NBA wants to do and however they want to handle it, we'll let them handle it that way."
Hmmm…A $25,000 fine does seem like a pretty light punishment for hitting a dude in the family jewels. But, there's no way the NBA let Ibaka off easy just because the Lakers and Thunder are playing, right? Er, right?!
