Everybody but James May loves the Nurburgring, although that hasn't kept the storied German race track in the black through the recession. F1's sometimes tyrannical overlord, Bernie Ecclestone, promised to do what he could to save the ring, and he's ensured that this year's German Grand Prix would be held at the 'ring, which should hopefully be enough to keep it afloat.
The Hockenheim, the other track in Germany that regularly hosts the German Grand Prix, jumped on the opportunity to host the event two years in a row, when it heard that the Nurburgring had filed for bankruptcy. According to Ecclestone, though “I treasure the Nurburgring and its history. In view of its long tradition, I was glad to support choosing the Nürburgring as the venue for F1.”
