This is clearly nothing more than a publicity stunt. But, frankly, we're a little bit surprised that no one else thought to do it earlier, so we've gotta give the Joliet Slammers their props.
The Slammers—who play in the independent Frontier League which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball in any way—just offered Michael Jordan the chance to play baseball again. They've extended him an open invitation to sign with the team and have said that even if he doesn't play, they plan on retiring the No. 45 for him. But, if he does decide to ink a deal, he'd receive $1600 per month (the max allowed in the Frontier League), two free tickets to every Slammers game, and a luxury box featuring all-you-can-eat burgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, and more. Oh, who are we kidding? This is just about the dumbest idea that we've ever heard. But, as we said, we do give the Slammers credit for trying. We're just a little bit upset that a D-League or minor league baseball team didn't think of it first.
