VW Wants $45,000 for its Pocket Rocket Polo R WRC

Only 2,500 will be built.

We've heard a lot about the upcoming VW Polo R WRC for a long time, but these are the first solid facts we've heard. To celebrate the German giant's WRC efforts, the public will now be able to buy an homage car. It's riding on some 18" rally wheels, has nice chunky bumpers, and a roof spoiler. The upgrades are certainly not all aesthetic though; the Polo R WRC is sporting a 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque 2.0 turbo I4 that will launch the tiny veedub to 60mph in 6.4 seconds.

Sadly, there's no all-wheel drive system and it costs €33,900, which is $45,000 in American dollars. So the choices are a 265hp, AWD Subaru WRX that's actually rally-ready for $25,795 or a slower, front wheel drive Volkswagen faux rally car for $45,000. Hmm... here's one Europe only hot-hatch we don't pine for.
