Exactly 60 years ago yesterday, the Chevrolet Corvette made its first public debut at the 1953 GM Motorama at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. It was a prototype was the work of GM styling director Harley Earl who thought that America needed a presence in the Euro-heavy sports car segment. Named after a small class of naval ships, the Corvette had a lightweight fiberglass body and was originally offered for $3,498.
On this past Wednesday, we were invited to a spot in Manhattan for the New York City debut of the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7. And while we were certainly impressed and equally fascinated by the new generation of the Chevy sports car, we were stunned by being in the presence of the exact prototype that made that debut back in '53. The car was immaculate with it's white exterior and gorgeous red interior. We spent some time with the original and took plenty of pictures to make the memory last.
