The only thing worse than getting doored by a stopped car while riding your bike is getting hitting by a moving one. The impact can be fatal for a cyclist riding totally exposed and vulnerable. Dutch car company TNO hopes to change that with their idea for an external windshield airbag, designed to protect cyclists and pedestrians in the event of a crash. The airbags provide improved safety for cars traveling up to 40km per hour, giving anyone involved on the outside end of a crash a soft and safe place to land. Now, if they could just design one for doors.
