Earlier this morning, we told you about how Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett almost got into a fight after last night's Knicks/Celtics game. But, we didn't break down exactly what led to Melo getting so upset that he tried to fight KG outside the Celtics team bus following the contest. So, here goes.
Throughout last night's game, KG forced Melo to shoot just 6-for-26 from the field by doing the kinds of things that KG always does. He talked some trash. He threw an extra elbow every now and then. And, eventually, he worked his way into Melo's head. Things reached a boiling point in the fourth quarter when Melo decided that he'd had enough and threw a couple cheap shots of his own when KG tried to post him up. The refs handed technical fouls to both players and tried to gain control over both players in order to keep the peace. But, by that time, it was too late. And, well, we all know what happened next.
If this doesn't help resuscitate the Knicks/Celtics rivalry, we don't know what will. What a crazy series of events.
