Extended-Range Electric Cadillac ELR To Make World Debut in Detroit

Another new addition to GM's luxury lineup.

At this point, if you're an auto manufacturer and aren't developing electric vehicles, you're might as well go see if your nearest McDonald's needs help serving up those extra servings of McRib this holiday season. Cadillac knows that and has fully committed ($35 million worth of commitment) to building a luxury extended-range electric vehicle.

“The ELR will be in a class by itself, further proof of our commitment to electric vehicles and advanced technology,” General Motors North America President Mark Reuss said in a keynote address at the SAE Convergence Conference in Detroit. “People will instantly recognize it as a Cadillac by its distinctive, signature look and true-to-concept exterior design.”

This vehicle, named the ELR, will make its world debut this January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
