Missy Franklin has fought desperately to keep her amateur status. Even turning down lucrative multi-million dollar offers. But when one of her favorite current singers, Justin the conundrum: keep the gifts which included t-shirts, CDs, posters, etc. (hit the thumbs to check it all out) and forget about competitive swimming at the high school level or give them back.
In the end, Missy actually chose the latter and said the following in a recent interview with ESPN the Magazine:
“It was really sweet of him,” she explained. “But it was considered a form of special treatment that could have jeopardized my amateur status. I’ve given up way too much and sacrificed too much to keep a Justin Bieber T-shirt and lose it all. So I sent it back.”
Guess you gotta wait until she turns 18, Justin. You know, to give her back that package, er, memorabilia.
