If you think we're living in a "post-racial" society right now, go log onto Twitter. Everyday, we see instances of racism, especially when it comes to sports. But, be warned: If you are one of those people who uses racist tweets to try and get back at pro athletes, you could get in big trouble for it.
Last weekend, a 15-year-old boy found that out the hard way when he was arrested on suspicion of committing a racially aggravated public order offense after he allegedly sent out a racist tweet to Manchester United soccer player Rio Ferdinand. The boy is currently out on bail, but there's a good chance he could be penalized for sending out the tweet after the United's 3-2 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
Our response: Good. If that's what it takes to get people to chill on the racist tweets, then we hope this isn't the last case like this. Something has to be done.
