Once a leader in the crossover catagory, Toyota's RAV4 has faced steady competition in recent years. Ford's Escape and the Mazda CX-5 closed the gap, and now in its 3rd incarnation, the 2013 RAV4 gives off some of the aesthetic vibe of those vehicles. Gone is the gate rear door, in favor of a more traditional hinge lift, and the idea of third row seats has also gone out the window. This is a RAV4 with a bit of—not ugly, not pretty—personality. A new gear box won't hurt in enhancing reputation again either.
