Do you know the name Doug Martin yet? If not, it's time to get familiar. On Sunday, he rushed for 251 yards, four touchdowns, and a ton of fantasy football points against the Raiders. He's been so good so far this year that some people are already saying he could be the NFL Rookie of the Year ahead of Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III at the end of the season.
But, the guy has one thing going against him right now: His terrible nickname. During an appearance on NFL AM earlier today, he talked about where it came from and why he can't get rid of it.
"It has to be the worst nickname ever," he said. "I can't shake it. It started in college, started back in Boise, with our lineman. I have a lot of bigger friends, and they'd call me the Muscle Hamster because of how much I could lift in the weight room."
Yikes. Muscle Hamster? Martin can shake just about anyone on the football field. But, he's going to have trouble shaking that nickname. Something tells us it's here to stay.
