Chinese Government Builds Highway Around House

Bending the law.

In China, it is illegal to demolish a property by force. However, that hasn't stopped the government in Xiazhangyang, China, from building new roads with unexpected features.

A new road in the region includes a little house sitting right in the middle of a four-lane highway. The owners, the Luo family, claim the relocation offer was too low and that they are holding out for enough to build a new home elsewhere. With most other neighborhood families moved, this final roadblock was not enough to halt construction. The Luo family now lives surrounded by asphalt.

Rather than sympathize with the Luo clan, local officials have simply stated "the policy is what it is." Now the family must live in a bizarre situation or take a loss on their home.
