Caterham Considering Making a Crossover and a Hatchback

Totally unlikely, but happening nonetheless.

Yesterday we reported that Caterham and Renault were going to build a pair of sports cars together, and we knew that the British track-car maker was looking into creating a more reasonable road-car, but this is something different entirely.

CEO Graham MacDonald revealed that the company is also looking into making a crossover and a city car, which will be a total change of pace for the company that has, thus far, made nothing but '60s F1-inspired track cars and actual F1 cars. The partnership with Renault will help the company access existing platforms to save costs during development.

"If you look at what Porsche has done, it has set a great template for a company such as ours... It has gone from a pure DNA sports car maker and evolved from there," said MacDonald to What Car? magazine.
