2014 Subaru Forester Grows Some Balls

New BRZ engine gives once maligned crossover some proper power.

The Subaru Forester doesn't usually win over dudes. Yes, we know the stereotype and we know crossovers aren't always considered tough. The 2014 design remains true to "granola nation" icon status, but things are getting sleeker, faster, and a bit more exciting. The profile is a bit bolder than previous generations and there is more legroom too.

Of course, we're not concerned with the exterior. We care about the guts. And in 2014 the Forester will grow a pair of balls. The XT model will roll on 18-inch wheels and get power from a turbocharged version of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder FA engine now used in the BRZ.

Looks like the Crosstrek may have some competition for our affection.
