For years now, sportswriters, sports fans, and the general public have wondered what it would be like when the first active gay athlete finally came out. Well, they've finally got there answer. Er, sort of.

Earlier this month, boxer Orlando Cruzrevealed that he is a gay man. And, his life has turned into a whirlwind. Before his recent fight against Jorge Pazos, he sat for more than 50 interviews to talk about what it's like to be the first openly gay athlete in the world of boxing. Yet, it seems like we're all still trying to wrap our heads around what Cruz's admission means both for himself and professional sports.

Writer Jeb Lund does his best to put things into perspective in his new piece called "A Gay Athlete in the World's Most Macho Sport." And, if it teaches us anything, it's that we're all still keeping a close eye on what Cruz's sexuality means to sports and, to a larger degree, the world as a whole. It's a great read. Check it out over here.
