The VW Jetta Hybrid's Fuel Economy Isn't as Good as the Prius', VW Says This is Intentional

The fuel economy isn't as good, and that's a feature!

Rather than simply ignoring the fact that the Jetta Hybrid's fuel economy isn't as good as the Toyota Prius' like most companies do, Volkswagen has opted to face the marketing problem head on. On the topic of Jetta vs. Prius 2013, Rainer Michel, VP of Product Marketing and Strategy, says "It is by purpose. We want the customer to have a great experience, fun to drive, and that's why we positioned the car this way."

The Prius is extremely efficient; the Jetta is very efficient, has a dual-clutch transmission, a turbocharged four-pot, and sport-tuned suspension. The EPA hasn't released official figured or the Jetta Hybrid's fuel economy yet, but expect the car to be rated around 45mpg.
