There they are. Yesterday, this year's Los Angeles Lakers team, which features Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, Steve Nash, and Metta World Peace, took their first photos together at media day. And, KB24 made some interesting comments about the current construction of the team. Despite the fact that he played on the 1999-2000 Lakers team that went 67-15 and won a 'chip off the strength of a diesel lineup that featured Shaq, Glen Rice, Ron Harper, Robert Horry, and a young Kobe, he says that this Lakers team is the best one he's ever played on.

"On its face, it's the best talent I've been around," he told reporters yesterday. "Whether that translates into winning a championship, that remains to be seen. But, just on paper, you're obviously talking about defensive players of the years, MVPs, All-Stars. You're talking about a myriad of things where guys are on top of their position and have been at the top of their position."

We have to stress two of the words Kobe used there. Have been. Several of the players on this year's Lakers team—including Kobe himself—have been "defensive players of the years," "MVPs," and "All-Stars" in the past. But, they're not anymore. So, while we're sure the Lakers are going to be good this year, we don't think this is the best team Kobe has ever been a part of. Not unless they prove it on the court.
